To Install Soldier of Fortune

 

Download the Soldier of Fortune .zip file and save it locally to your hard disk. Unzip the file using a registered decompression utility, double click on the "setup.exe" and follow the on-screen instructions.

The Story

 

You are John Mullins, a professional consultant with a long combat record and a reputation for getting the job done when the worldÆs governments cannot.á You have learned that ôThe Order,ö a bloodthirsty worldwide terrorist organization, has stolen four nuclear weapons from a poorly guarded weapons facility in the former Soviet Union.á Your mission: Uncover The OrderÆs secret plans, stop them and bring their leader to justice.

 

The Characters

 

JOHN MULLINS - Born and raised in Southwest Oklahoma, Mullins served three tours in Vietnam, earning three Purple Hearts. He was also a member of the controversial PHOENIX group created to assassinate high ranking Vietcong officers. Mullins retired from the military to become a æconsultantÆ, or Mercenary, 12 years ago. He now takes jobs from the U.N. Anti-terrorist group called The Shop. With a medium build, Mullins boasts strength and speed that few men possess.

 

AARON "HAWK" PARSONS - Grew up in inner city Detroit and later fought in Desert Storm. Parsons is considered one of the army's best demolitions specialists. He is frequently partnered with John Mullins on jobs coming from The Shop.

 

SAM GLADSTONE - Bookstore owner and part-time employee of The Shop. A Captain in Vietnam, Gladstone excelled at recon, later spending several years with the CIA. 62 years old. Bearded. (Note: Sam only appears in the single player portion of the Demo.)

Description: Manufactured in Texas by WatchDog Industries, the powerful Silver Talon was designed to be one of the most powerful handguns in the world.á Although somewhat larger and more cumbersome than lower caliber pistols, the Silver Talon packs a large degree of stopping power and a high degree of accuracy.

Description: Developed specifically for police and military use, the B-42 is a highly lethal close-combat assault weapon.á Although the addition of the elbow hook on the skeleton stock allows the B-42 to be fired one-handed, it generally decreases the accuracy of the weapon.

Description: The Raptor SMG blurs the lines between assault rifles and submachineguns.á Although small and compact like a submachinegun, the weapon is chambered for 5.56mm ammunition, an ammunition type that is usually found in assault rifles.á Regardless of classification, this weapon is an efficient, top-of-the-line killing machine.

Description: The EagleEye is a highly modified and refined version of many of the sniper rifles that contain short action systems intended for high precision fire. The addition of a powerful scope and explosive tipped rounds add a lethal dose of accuracy.

Description: Using a four round clip and four firing tubes, the M202A2 can place an incendiary rocket up to 750 meters away one round each second. The open rocket tubes give no recoil when fired but there is a dangerous backblast area behind the weapon which measures 15 meters long and 15 meters wide at its base.

Your Arsenal (Combat Items)

Ballistic Armor

Description: Originally worn by police and SWAT units, Ballistic Armor became more flexible and lightweight while still retaining a high amount of stopping power.á Due to this, combat forces now use it across the globe.

Flash Pak

Description: The Flash Pak (or stun grenade) is a small grenade-like unit that emits a loud stunning explosion followed by a large blast of concussive energy that causes anyone near the Pak to be blinded and disoriented for a limited duration.á

C4 with timer

Description: C4 has been portrayed as the plastic explosive of terrorists for many years in the mass media.á As it stands, the plastique is a highly stable, highly explosive charge that can be used nearly anywhere.á With the addition of an electronic timer, C4 is a great way of circumventing locked doors and the occasional curious guard.

 

HE-36 Fragmentation Grenades

Description: A staple of infantry units across the globe, the HE-36 is a standard issue fragmentation hand grenade. The grenade has a throwing range of about 30 meters and the explosion and fragment delivery carry a casualty radius of about 15 meters. The HE-36 explodes 3 - 5 seconds after removal of the pin and safety clip.

 

R-43 "Angel Light" Night Vision Goggles:

Description: Light amplification and starlight scopes have been in use for decades. Unfortunately, any sort of bright light or flash could damage the units and injure the optic nerves of those using them. The development of the R-43 solved those problems. The unit automatically adjusts to overly bright lights, sparing the user any uncomfortable situations.

Soldier of FortuneÆs default configuration is set up to use the keyboard and mouse together or the keyboard only.

 

Customizing Your Settings

 

You can customize your keyboard and mouse configuration through the game menu by clicking on the ôOptionsö button.

Multiplayer

 

Click on the Multiplayer icon in the Main menu to take you to the Multiplayer menu. This menuá consists of multiple sections that allow you to configure your player, join a server, set up your own server, log on to WON multiplayer services and customize your multiplayer options.

Configure Player Menu û

This sub screen allows you to choose the model and skin for your player model for the purposes of multiplayer gaming.á The three icons at the top of the screen allow you to choose the Configure Player menu, the Local Multiplayer menu and the WON Multiplayer menu.

 

Local Multiplayer Menu û

This sub screen allows you to configure your options for starting a local, nonûWON supported multiplayer game.á Choose from the following options:

 

Join A Local Server û

This sub screen shows available servers running Soldier of Fortune on the Internet. The top section shows the name of the server (e.g. BobÆs Arena of Death), average ping (speed of connection), game type (e.g. Assassin, Arsenal), map name (e.g. Sibdm1), and number of players in each displayed server. Clicking the Refresh button will refresh the server list, removing cancelled servers and displaying new ones. Right-clicking your mouse on a server on the list will show you the serverÆs properties and the names of the players currently in the multiplayer game.

 

Start A Local Server û

This sub screen allows you to set up your own multiplayer game server. Enter a hostname for your server (e.g. BobÆs Arena of Death) and adjust the settings to your liking. You can set time limits, frag (kill) limits, multiplayer game type (see note below), and maximum number of clients (players) you want to be able to join your game. Cycle through the List File Selection to choose a multiplayer map.

Note: If you want no limits, set frag and time limits to zero. The maximum number of clients is 32, but 16 is the recommended maximum for optimum networking performance. Multiplayer game types included in the DEMO are as follows:

 

Deathmatch û Standard multiplayer mayhem where every player is out for him or herself: Take the other players out before they take you out.

Team Deathmatch û Team up with your friends to take down other teams of players in the deathmatch arena. Each team can choose a skin package from one of five unique colors. Note: There are only 3 available teams in the DEMO edition.

Note: Arsenal, Capture the Flag and Assassin are not available in the DEMO edition.á They are only available in the full retail version of the game.

 

Alter Game Settings -

This sub screen offers a variety of customizable options for setting up your deathmatch server to your liking. These DM flags are as follows:

 

Health Pickups û Allows you to choose if health paks appear in the level or not.

Item Pickups û Allows you to choose if items appear in the level or not.

Weapons Always There û Allows you to choose if the weapons in the level are constantly there or if they disappear and re-spawn at intervals.

Falling Damage û Allows you to choose if falls from great heights damage the player or not.

Realistic Damage û Allows you to choose if the weapons do real-life or arcade-style damage. Note: Realistic damage is disabled in the DEMO edition.

Team Play û Allows you to set up teams of players for deathmatch games.

Friendly Fire û Allows you to choose if your weapons do damage to your teammates.

Spawn Farthest û Selects the spawn spot furthest from the other players as the re-spawn point after a player dies in a multiplayer game.

Armor Pickups û Allows you to choose if armor pickups appear in the level or not.

Allow Exit û Allows you to choose if you want players to be able to exit the current level if it has an exit. Deathmatch maps donÆt have exits. If you play multiplayer on a single-player level, you can turn the exit off. Note: There are no single player levels included in the Multiplayer DEMO edition.

Infinite Ammo û Allows you to choose if weapons have infinite ammunition or not.

CTF Force Join û Forces players to join whichever Capture The Flag team is shorthanded at the time a new player joins the server. Note: Capture the Flag is not available in the DEMO edition.

Armor Protect û Allows you to choose if armor protects players from weapon damage or not. Note: Armor Protect is not available in the DEMO edition.

Same Level û Allows you to choose to play the same level repeatedly after the frag or time limit, instead of cycling through the various deathmatch levels.

Auto Weapon Reload û Allows you to choose if weapons need to be reloaded or not.

Spinning Weapons û Allows you to choose whether weapons pickups spin or lie motionless.

Force Respawn û Forces dead players to respawn immediately.

This series of menus guides you through the WON Network support features for Soldier of Fortune multiplayer.á The options you are presented with are similar in function to those described in the Local Multiplayer Menus, but feature WON Network support.á Choose from the following options:
